The Sell-Out: Season 2, Episode 9. Second of three episodes of Jon Rollason as Dr Martin King. Guest stars Frank Gatlif and Arthur Hewlett. Steed with the aid of Dr King investigates why a mission-critical person always gets killed. Obviously as the episode title says someone has sold out. However the biggest sell-out is this episode as it has delivered nothing in thrills and excitement. In a remarkable coincidence The Sell-Out got mentioned in the following article about the development of Doctor Who, an article that is recent to my remarks about The Sell-Out: www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/11/23Nov1962-231112000008.html

On the Buffy season 8 Motion Comic DVD release had a look at the covers of the Buffy season 8 comic books they were adapted from. To my surprise the cover for No Future For You Part IV was that of Giles as Steed and Faith as Emma Peel even though they weren’t dressed that way for the story itself but it does involve Faith in a clandestine operation assigned to her by Giles.

Death On The Rocks: Season 2, Episode 10. The rocks in the episode title is in reference to diamonds and people have unfortunately died from them. Overall not a bad episode and it was not a bad situation which saw Steed and Cathy pretending to be husband and wife.

Intercrime: Season 2, Episode 15. Written by Terrance Dicks and Malcolm Hulke. Bettine Milne as Prison Officer Sharpe in her uniform made me think of The Freak, the prison governor in Wentworth. I don’t watch Wentworth but I do love the woman who plays The Freak, Pamela Rabe. The episode is about an international crime syndicate, hence the episode’s name. Fascinating with Cathy infiltrating Intercrime by impersonating Hilda Stern. Hilda Stern is well played by Julia Arnall and like the eventual showdown between her and Cathy.

Box of Tricks: Season 2, Episode 17. This episode pairs Steed with Venus Smith although it was originally scripted to Cathy here as well. Not so bad but not so great episode involving a magician’s act with that of state secrets and Venus Smith being one of the magician’s assistant. Coincidentally the upcoming Doctor Who season 39 opener is called The Magician’s Apprentice.

The Nutshell: Season 3, Episode 4. Guest stars Bud Tingwell in the first of two appearances in the series each as different characters. The Nutshell is the acronym for Thermonuclear Underground Target Zone Shelter and Steed and Cathy were sent there to investigate a break-in. Things sure took an interesting turn when it appears that Steed is a traitor who had helped out the intruder. Superbly handled episode as we eventually see the real villains being flushed out at the episode’s climax.

The Grandeur That Was Rome: Season 3, Episode 10. The villain here is the leader of the World Empire Party and aims to recreate the world in the shape of the Roman Empire. Calling himself Caesar, he undertakes this purpose by releasing deadly diseases. Like 3.7 The Gilded Cage, The Grandeur That Was Rome has a coincidence with the then upcoming Goldfinger which Honor Blackman would leave The Avengers for. In this case is that of the lead character pretending to have escaped from his cell but in actual fact was still in it. Definitely not wise for Caesar to name his chief lieutenant as Brutus as this Brutus killed this Caesar just like what happened to the originals.

Death A La Carte: Season 3, Episode 13. Steed and Cathy are on the case of an Emir whose life is being threatened with Steed posing as a chef and Cathy as a social planner. I don’t watch MasterChef so I would not presume whether Steed’s take as a chef is an alternative to watching MasterChef but was very good in posing as one. (I actually once saw a brief segment of Young MasterChef in which my wife Karen Gillan was a judge.) Intriguing the political machinations that was going on here with the Emir. Thrilling when Steed had to walk over the edge as part of getting out the predicament that he and Cathy were in. The Emir does die here but perhaps surprising on the revelation for the cause of death.
This is the first episode that I saw since learning of the passing of Patrick Macnee.
So: In Memory of Patrick Macnee 1922-2015.

The Wringer: Season 3, Episode 17.
Guest stars Barry Letts who would later become producer of Doctor Who.
Another guest star here is Paul Whitsun-Jones who would later appear in Doctor Who during Letts’ tenure as producer in The Mutants.
Absolutely thrilling episode in which Steed has been framed as a traitor and touching what Cathy went through to help Steed clear his name.

Concerto: Antepenultimate episode of season 3. A pianist gets framed for murder of a young girl who in turn was framing him for sexual assault. It seems somewhat bizarre that a perceived sexual assault got presented on this programme that was broadcast in 1964. Absolutely very good mystery that was explored culminating in an assassination attempt on the Trade Minister. Nigel Stock was very fun as Zalenko including what he learnt from watching British television. Zalenko also mentioned that there hasn't been a successful political assassination in Britain since 1812. This was in reference to the assassination of British Prime Minister Spencer Percival that year.

Dial A Deadly Number: Season 4, Episode 10. Key businessmen have suddenly dropped dead and Steed and Emma investigate these deaths. The method in the killing of these business was pretty neat and one of these perpetrators sure acted with panic when Steed was playing around it when he taunted her on it. The end scene was funny when Emma tasted a wine and Steed asked her how she came up with the correct answer of what it is by smell or taste and said that it was her eyes as she read it on the label!

Two's A Crowd:
Season 4, Episode 12.
Steed poses as an imposter of himself as part of his investigation on a Russian spy called Psev.
Steed as his own imposter even convinces Emma of this as that was part of the plan.
Steed doing a double identical act on his own was a little bit confusing along the way but still enjoyable including the villains here being defeated by a toy plane!

Silent Dust: Season 4, Episode 14. An intriguing start to the episode with birds dropping dead. Afterwards the episode kinds of muddle through. I wasn’t quite sure what Steed’s dream of Emma as a moustached man had to do in the context episode but it was a bit amusing. Quite fun seeing Steed and Emma horseriding whilst dealing with the villains. Amusing the episode ends with Steed and Emma on a balloon with uncertainly whether they can get back down safely.
Coincidentally shortly after watching Silent Dust saw Degrassi 13.8 Young Forever which also ended with a balloon but of a small kind and not carrying any passengers.
